How much does lower body power contribute to a maximum disc golf throw?

How much of the throwing force comes from the legs? We studied this topic with Dr. Jouni Kallio.

Our recent study examined how much of the throwing force comes from the legs, and the results were surprising!

We tested the throwing speeds of competitive players using both normal full-speed throws and throws from a kneeling position, where lower body involvement is removed. When throwing from the knees, disc speed was 82% of normal for backhand and 87% for forehand.

Lower body power and the run-up do affect disc speed, but the difference was surprisingly small.
